What made you want to try half-frame, and what was your first half-frame camera?
Initially, it was the sheer number of extra frames that pulled me toward half-frame photography. The rising cost of film made it an easy choice for my wallet, but the creative benefit was the real reward.
I started my half-frame journey with the beloved “plastic-fantastic” Kodak Ektar H35. The images had a charm I immediately loved, sharp enough in the middle to capture the details that mattered. More than anything, the camera was just a joy to use. It was so light making it the perfect partner for all my travels.
What is it you like most about Half-frame?
Thinking of a roll as a canvas for 72 photos, rather than just 35, felt liberating and completely changed how I shoot film. It seems this feeling of newfound freedom is a shared experience in the half-frame community .
Favourite subject and/or Half-frame photo?
I’m drawn to taking photos of the mundane, the ordinary scenes and objects we encounter daily. My goal is to reveal the quiet beauty hidden within these simple, often abandoned moments.
If I had to pick a favorite photo, it would be one from my first half-frame roll. It’s nothing complex or particularly impressive, just a quiet moment capturing a green van parked before a bright yellow storefront, perfectly still

Your top tip/s for shooting half frame photos?
Treat your half-frame camera as if you were shooting full-frame. Be intentional with every exposure. Apply the same intentionality to every shot; having double the exposures doesn’t mean any are disposable.
Photos don’t always need to be in portrait orientation or diptychs. Don’t be afraid to crop for a stronger image, and don’t underestimate the resolution, half-frame images can be printed larger than you might expect.
